The owner, of course, decides on the size of their business card. But there are certain standards. In Ukraine, and other countries of the former Soviet Union, the standard size for a rectangular business card is 50 × 90 mm (5 cm × 9 cm).
More detailed information on business card sizes can be found in the article:
It is most convenient to calculate business card sizes in millimeters. The standard size in our country is 50 × 90 mm. Most often, when you go to a printing house to print your business cards, they will offer you the option to choose the size in millimeters or centimeters.
The standard size in centimeters is 5 × 9 cm. Many find it easier to understand the dimensions of a business card as 5×9 cm rather than 50×90 mm.
Standard business card sizes in pixels (in Adobe Illustrator): 141.73 × 255.12 px
These dimensions are relevant not for choosing the size of the business card, but for its creation. For Adobe Illustrator, the standard size in pixels is 141.73 × 255.12 px with a resolution of 72 dpi.
Standard business card sizes in inches (in Adobe Illustrator): 1.97 × 3.54 in
Inches are sometimes referred to as “in.” One inch equals 2.54 cm. The standard size for a business card is 1.97 × 3.54 in. These dimensions are equivalent to the familiar 5 × 9 cm. These are the dimensions used for creating a business card in Adobe Illustrator.
Standard business card sizes in pixels (in Adobe Photoshop, 300 dpi): 591 × 1063 px
For Adobe Photoshop, the standard pixel dimensions are 591 × 1063 px with a resolution of 300 dpi. It’s important to note that the pixel sizes for Photoshop and Illustrator are different.
When producing a non-standard size business card, it’s important to consider that it may not fit (or may fall out) of a wallet, cardholder, or pocket. If your business card is inconvenient to store, it may get lost or thrown away.
It is also important to consider the type of business card you plan to create (personal, professional, corporate, etc.) and the market you will be targeting (Ukraine, the USA, or other countries). In the latter case, if you are working, for example, with EU countries, their standards should be taken into account.
Standard business card sizes in other countries:
Abroad, business cards are sometimes made smaller according to the international standard ISO 7810 ID-1 (used for bank cards, passports, licenses). In this case, the size of the business card will be 85.6 × 53.98 mm (3.370 × 2.125 inches), sometimes 85 × 55 mm. Often, these sizes correspond to the sections in a wallet.
In European Union countries, strict standards for business card sizes are followed only in Germany. In other countries, you may encounter different shapes and dimensions.
In the United States and Canada, the most common format for business cards is 3.5 x 2 inches (88.9 × 50.8 mm).
